Change in Packet Pickup Times

Everything is on track with the 2011 Foot Pursuit 5K, but we had to make a change to the Packet Pickup times.  We will NOT be having packet pickup on Friday, June 3rd.  Instead, packet pickup will be on the morning of the race from 0600 to 0645 hrs.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  We will see you on race day!

Second Annual Foot Pursuit 5K

The second annual Foot Pursuit 5K will be held on Saturday, June 4th, 2011.  All the proceeds from this event go to the Special Olympics.

Last year we had a great turn-out with 150 runners and raised over $12,000 for the Special Olympics.  This year we added a noncompetitive 2 Mile Walk event for people who want to support the event and the Special Olympics, but would rather walk a shorter distance.  The 2 Mile course is stroller friendly.

This year we also upped the ante by offering Dri-Fit Performance t-shirts (in male and female specific sizing) to everyone who registers by May 20th.  We will try to accommodate participants who register after May 20th, but no guarantees.  Please register early!!

This year, Chipotle is sponsoring the Foot Pursuit 5K.  The first 150 people to register for the event will be receive a special treat on the day of the race, courtesy of Chipotle.   Register early!!

The 5K course starts and finishes at the Huachuca Mountain Elementary School.  A section of the 5K course follows the scenic Garden Canyon Park Trail, which is not suitable for pets or strollers.  As a result, pets and strollers are prohibited in the 5K race.

Paul Valentin holds the 5K course record with a time of 19:05!
Briana McCloskey holds the women's course record with a time of  22:13!
Alex Roy holds the course record for LE men with a time of 20:37!
Lori Esparza holds the course record for LE women with a time of 34:18!

The 2 Mile Walk course also starts and finishes at the Huachuca Mountain Elementary School.  This is a noncompetitive event and is suitable for strollers.

Registration fees are $25 for the 5K Race and the 2 Mile Walk, but the fees for the 5K race will increase to $30 after May 20th.  You can register in person at the Sierra Vista Police Department, 911 North Coronado Drive Monday through Friday (8AM-5PM) or you can register online through Active.com by clicking on the link below.

Online registration ends on May 31st, but you can still register in person at the Sierra Vista Police Department until Friday, June 3rd.  Register by May 20th to ensure you get one of the new and very cool Dri-Fit Performance T-shirts!

Check-in for both events will be from 6:00 AM to 6:45 AM.  Both the 5K Running Race and the 2 Mile Walk will start promptly at 7:00 AM.  A 1/2 mile race for Special Olympics athletes will start at 8:00 AM, and the awards ceremony will immediately follow the Special Olympics event.

Packet pickup will be at the Sierra Vista PD on June 3, 2011, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, or the morning of the race from 6:00 AM to 6:45 AM

Race day parking is available across the street from the venue at the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church.

First Annual Foot Pursuit 5K

RESULTS ARE POSTED!
All Photographs Courtesy of
Officer Jeff Dykehouse, SVPD

The first annual SVPD Foot Pursuit 5K benefiting the Special Olympics was a great success.  We pleasantly exceeded our expectations with 148 entrants. Our goals were to raise money for Special Olympics and to create a fun and healthy event for people to enjoy.  We hope to learn from this event so we can make next years race even better.  This event would have never came to fruition without a lot of help from some very generous people.  Paula Bohte of Bohte Designs did an outstanding job with all the graphic design aspects, to include the fliers and t-shirt design.  Brad and Lisa Roland of Timeless Therapeutic Spa really went out of their way to make this event special.  We would also like to thank Les  Woods who provided race timing, DHS Technologies (DRASH Shelters) for providing the high-speed shelters, Air Evac,  Outback Steakhouse, Staples, M&M Cycling, Best Buy, Target, Safeway, Roto-Rooter, and Crown Trophy.  Donations totaled over $12,000!
Air Evac, one of the title sponsors for event, landed one of their helicopters near the start.
A section of the course traversed a portion of the Garden Canyon Trail, which added a fun and interesting aspect to the race.
Timeless Therapeutic Day Spa, another big sponsor for the event, provided complimentary massages for all race participants.
The Special Olympics event consisted of a 1/2 mile course.  Here the Special Olympics Athletes are preparing for the start of their race.
Daniel Pizano, the only Special Olympics Athlete to compete in the 5K, did awesome.  His great attitude lifted the spirit of the event, as well as the spirits of the competitors, to a whole new level.
Paul Valentin put the hammer down in the last mile of the race, narrowly beating Jeff Gifford by five seconds to claim the title as the overall winner.
Briana McCloskey also won a hard-fought race, besting all other female (and most of the male) competitors.
Lori Esparza of US Border Patrol was the fastest female law enforcement competitor.
Officer Alex Roy of the Sierra Vista Police Department was the fastest law enforcement officer.  Only four other racers were able to outrun him and can claim they "outran the cops" at the Foot Pursuit 5K.

Not only was Briana McCloskey the fastest female finisher in the 5K, she was also the lucky
winner of the raffle grand prize - a ride on a Air Evac helicopter.
